One of the Inner Hebrides, 3 miles west, off the Mull of Kintyre, with the dramatic backdrop of the islands of Jura and Islay when viewed from the mull.
The island is only 6 miles long by 1.5 wide but is fertile and gains from having shelter belts of trees to protect the land from the worst of the Atlantic winds.
Achamore House built in 1884 is well known for its gardens. The island is associated by Gaelic speakers with the Rev. Kenneth MacLeod, a noted Gaelic scholar from whom Mrs Kennedy Faser got much material for her acclaimed "Songs of the Hebrides".
Regular ferry connections from Tayinloan make this tranquill and beautiful spot readily accessable....
