About 12 miles from Glasgow, East Kilbride is Scotland's 6th largest town and Scotland's biggest "new town". In 1947 the 'new town' was created to help accomodate Glasgow's overspill population. East Kilbride, has very popular shopping area's and the town's economy is growing along with the growth in population. There are several major industries in East Kilbride, which all add to the towns growing affluence.
