On the South Side of Glasgow, Eaglesham still remains a fine example of 18century planning.
There are many thoughts on the origins of the name Eaglesham although the most popular is that it derives from 'ecclesia - holm' meaning "Church Town".
In 1941 the Nazi Deputy Rudolf Hess flew from Germany to come to Scotland to try to negotiate with the Duke Of Hamilton a possible end to the war, however his plane crashed and he was captured in Eaglesham. He was one of the few senior nazis to be tried and serve his sentence in full....
