Pitcaple lies four miles northwest of Inverurie and is site of Pitcaple Castle, a 15th century tower-house with a 19th century wing attachment. This was designed by William Burn and has provided shelter for a number of noble guests, including Mary Queen of Scots, who dined there in 1562. Queen Mary planted the red maple that grows in the grounds in 1923 and King Charles II was resident at the Castle in 1650 while on his way to Scone to be crowned.... < more >
