16 miles east of Dumfries and 8 miles west of Gretna on the A75, Annan stands on the River Annan on the shores of the Solway Firth. Annandale extends to the north into the hills. An ancient borders town complete with its own nuclear power station nearby in Chapelcross.

Nearby is the fine Powfoot Golf Course which overlooks the Solway.
