Invergordon

Scotland > Highland Counties > Ross and Cromarty > Invergordon

Lying on the shores of the deep and sheltered waters of the Cromarty Firth, Invergordon, once know as Inverbeakie before being rebuilt and renamed by Sir William Gordon, developed into a busy port after the construction of its harbour in 1828.
Over the years the port has seen many changes, from a busy naval port to the centre of aluminium smelting in the Highlands. Today both have gone but the harbour remains.
