Inch Kenneth

Scotland > West of Scotland > Argyll > Isle of Mull > Inch Kenneth

This island of just under half a mile in length, is in the Inner Hebrides, off the west coast of Mull. Today the island is a rarely visited spec on the startlingly clear waters you cross to get there. But it is its religious past that makes it stand out from the myriad of other islands dooted around Scotland's coast.
After Iona was made the base of christian beliefs under St Columba, the smaller island was the saints second base and dependancy. You might see the the remains of the base of the 60 foot long original Culdee ruined church. This green fertile spec played a very important part in the early saints lives and for most of history was contested and fought over.
