Inchmahome

Scotland > East of Scotland > Perthshire > Inchmahome

The island in the lake (Inchmahome sits in Scotland's only lake - The Lake of Monteith) is steeped in the history of Scotland. There are monastic remains and the Augustinian and claustral buildings remain on the island.
Robert the Bruce visited the island and his son King David III was married at the priory here in 1363.
Mary Queen of Scots was taken here for safety as a child. The Priory is open to the public.
