Huntly

Scotland > East of Scotland > Aberdeenshire > Huntly

Huntly Castle. This little town lying on a plain surrounded by hills, some 39 miles west from Aberdeen, was laid out in the 18th century by the powerful Gordon family.

At the north end of the square, Castle Street leads you through the arch of the Gordon Schools which were founded by the Duchess of Gordon in 1839. It then leads on to the wooded drive, up to the ruined Huntly Castle, high up on the bank of the River Deveron.

The castle was the main home of the Gordons from 1376 until 1754.
