Hamilton

Scotland > Central Scotland > Lanarkshire > Hamilton

The large prosperous town of Hamilton lies off the A723, 10 miles south east of Glasgow just off the main motorway system. The town has expanded and modern house spread out from the old town centre. Hamilton's most famous landmark is the Mausoleum of the 10th Duke of Hamilton (1767-1852), its dome and black marble sarcophagus are truly unique. Another property built by the Hamilton's, Chatelherault Hunting Lodge (1732) was designed by Robert Adam and has been renovated and now forms the centre piece of a new park.
