Glen Shiel

Scotland > Highland Counties > Ross and Cromarty > Glen Shiel

Boswell and droctor Johnson came through this impressive Highland Glen in 1773 on horseback. It was the impressive scenery that prompted Boswell in to writing his "Journey". The Glen was the site of the battle of Glenshiel in 1719, when the Jacobites were defeated despite the help of 274 Spanish troops.
