Glenfinnan
Scotland > Highland Counties > Inverness-shire > Glenfinnan
This must be one of the most romantic and beautiful places in the Western Highlands. Where the "Road to the Isles" passes the head of Loch Shiel on its way to Morar and Mallaig. At the head of the loch stands the Glenfinnan Mounument, commemorating the the raising of Bonnie Prince Charlies Standard on the 19th of August 1745 as a rallying point for the Scottish clans to join his cause to re-establish a Stuart King on the throne of Great Britain.
St Finnan's Isle on the head of the Loch was a burial place for the Clan MacDonald since ancient times, a ruined chapel stands on the isle.
