Girvan

Scotland > South of Scotland > Ayrshire > Girvan

Lying on the south Ayrshire coast at the mouth of the Water of Girvan, the small resort town of Girvan is 20 miles south of Ayr. Girvan developed in the past because of shoemaking, weaving and fishing. The railway which came to Girvan in the 1860's brought holiday makers mainly from Glasgow, who were attracted by the pretty harbour and clean sandy beach. Still popular as a resort, the town attracts day trippers with its mix of old world charm and new amenities.
