The magnificent castle of Dunrobin is home to the Dukes of Sutherland, with its great park it stands overlooking the sea.
The original structure dates back to 1275 but extensive alterations in 1856 mke it what you see today. It is open to the public
The splendour of the castle must have aroused sad feelings in the evicted tenantry during the early 19th century. The lands ownded by the Duke and Duchess of Sutherland caused considerable dispute during the lamentable era of the highland clearances.
