Cumbernauld

Scotland > Central Scotland > Lanarkshire > Cumbernauld

No traffic lights or wardens, a huge shopping, business and entertainment complex under one roof, Cumbernauld sounded like the town of the future when work began in the 1960's. Situated 13 miles north east of Glasgow in the Clyde valley.
It was one of the "New Towns" that started to change the shape and definitions of town living in the latter part of the 20th century, an experiment that has had its critics and supporters. In its time it was to win international acclaim for its achitecture and layout and remains today as a unique and much loved home to many 1,000's of residents.
