Brechin

YesScotland.com : A view of Brechin Located on the A935, 9 miles west of Montrose. The steep streets of Brechin are lined by red sandstone buildings standing on a hill beside the South Esk River. Behind the city lies the rising backdrop of the East Grampian Range.
The 12th century cathedral which made Brechin a city is partially demolished but some of its original fabric and a spire dating from 1360 are well preserved. As is the 10th century 87 foot high watchtower standing next to it.
Nearby Edzell Castle with its walled gardens largely laid out as they were planted in 1604 are well worth visiting.
