yesscotland.com: Bowmore Distillery The village of Bowmore is known as the 'capital' of the island. Located on the shores of Loch Indaal, it is home to one of the great malt whisky distilleries of Islay.

The distillery developed at the same time as the village began to take shape. In 1768 Bowmore was one of the first legal distilleries on the island.
