YesScotland.com : Coming into Barrhead from Glasgow Situated to the south west of Glasgow. The Burgh of Barrhead began to evolve around 1773 after textile manufacturing sprung up along the Rivers Levern and Kirkton. The town grew between the two rivers and became a Burgh in 1894. As well as Calico printing in Victorian times Barrhead became well know for the manufacture of porcelain sanitary products, most notabley "Shanks" which closed in the latter part of the 20th cen.

Today it is a residental township on the fringes of rural Renfrewshire, with easy access to Paisley, Glasgow and the Clyde coast.
