Stromeferry

Scotland > Highland Counties > Ross and Cromarty > Stromeferry

Located in the Ross and Cromarty area of the Scottish Highlands, Stromeferry is named after the ferry which crosses Loch Carron. Starting in 1819, the ferry service was created as a result of the completed Kintail to Dingwall road.
Located on the opposite bank from Stromeferry stands the ruins of the 15th century - Strome Castle. Once home to the Camerons of Lochiel and the Earls of Ross, the castle was destroyed by the Mackenzies of Kintail in 1602. It is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland.
