Situated in Dufftown in Speyside, the ruin of Balvenie Castle dates back to the 13th century and was closely associated with the famous Comyn family before falling out with Robert the Bruce and later, King James II in the 15th century when they lost control of the castle and estates. Mary Queen of Scots was a visitor here in 1562.
