Reston

Scotland > South of Scotland > Berwickshire > Reston

Reston lies within the Scottish Borders in the Eye Water Valley 2½ miles (4 km) southwest of Coldingham.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the main England to Scotland road saw an increase in travellers and hence brought more growth to the small farming community. In the 1840's the North British Railway finally reached the area and as the branch to Duns was opened, Reston grew and became the local centre for Livestock. 1960 saw the closure of the railway which had a bad affect on the village, however, with the popularity of the Livestock market, the village was able to pull through and still operates its market to this day and is now home to a few Inns and a hotel.
