YesScotland.com : Castle Sinclair Located on the A99, in the north east of Caithness. The name Wick is derived from the old Norse, meaning bay.

A royal burgh, the town has grown round the sweep of Wick Bay, with its 2 harbours, Wick and Pulteneytown, based in the 19th century on herring fishing.

Since Viking times the towns position was ideally suited to serve and supply the rich agricultural lands lying behind.

South of the town are the ruins of Old Wick Castle. Nearby to the north at Noss Head the lighhouse looks over the sandy sweep of Sinclairs Bay with the ruined castles of Girnigoe and Sinclair behind.
