Traquair

Scotland > South of Scotland > Peeblesshire > Traquair

This small hamlet is located on the B709, one mile south of Innerleithen.

Traquair House, a 17th-century mansion, lies a short distance to the north. The main gates to the avenue leading to the house are flanked by two stone bears. Popular legend has it that they were closed and locked after the failed Jacobite rebellion of 1745, never to be opened again until a Stuart monarch sits on the throne of Scotland.Award winning ales are made in a 18th century brewery at the Castle.
