Located off the B9119/A97, 30 miles west of Aberdeen, in the heart of the Howe of Cromer, a natural hollow of land on the eastern edge of the Grampian mountains, close to the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park, between the River Dee and the River Don is an area of exceptional beauty in a very special corner of North East Scotland.
. It is about 7 miles north east of Ballater.

An ancient Kirktown of very modest size with a long and varied history.The central village square has at its eastern side the old parish church, dedicated to St Moluag.
