Summer Isles
Scotland > Highland Counties > Ross and Cromarty > Summer Isles
Some of the most beautiful islands off the north west coast of Sutherland, near to Ullapool. Looking over these islands from Achiltibuie during a sunset is one of the finest views in Scotland.
Tanera Mhor is the largest and only inhabited island of the summer Isles and lies 1.5 miles offshore from Achiltibuie in the mouth of Loch Broom.
Home to otters, seals and many bird species, full of history, going back to early Viking times, picturesque cottages and its unique Post Office selling the islands own stamps.
During the summer the island is visited briefly by the "Summer Queen" during her daily island cruises. A local boat also runs daily trips around the island
