The ruins of Strome Castle, off the A896, 4.5 miles south-west of Lochcarron, is situated on a rocky promontory jutting into Loch Carron, it commands some of the finest views towards the Isle of Skye.
Once a stronghold of the Lords of the Isles. It later was owned by the MacDonnells of Glengarry. In 1602 after a long siege following a quarrel with the Lord of Kintail, it was taken and destroyed by explosives.
Substantial sections of the wall still stand although all that remains of the tower is a heap of rubble.
Presented in 1939 to the National Trust for Scotland.
