Strathpeffer

Scotland > Highland Counties > Ross and Cromarty > Strathpeffer

Strathpeffer was built by the Victorians as a spa village. There are a collection of interesting buildings from that period. It is located at the head of the River Peffery valley, surrounded by beautiful wooded hills.

The village lies a few miles west of Dingwall, and just off the main route (A835) linking Inverness with Ullapool.

The mineral water springs around Strathpeffer were known for their curative powers as long ago as the 18th century. They had the reputation for being able to cure all manner of ills and were thought to have beneficial effects for people suffering from rheumatism.
