Strachur

Scotland > West of Scotland > Argyll > Strachur

Located off the A886 from Glendaruel or by going north from Dunoon along the main A815 towards the Rest and Be Thankful, near to Loch Fyne and Loch Eck. Strachur is an ancient clachan with an old church built in 1789. The name of the place comes from the word curra, meaning a heron.

A holiday town, there are several caravan parks in the area with all the facilities you would need to make this an ideal centre for exploring the Cowal Peninsula. There are numerous activities in the area, including horse riding, bird watching, sea and river fishing, and lots of places to visit including Inveraray Castle, The Younger Botanical Gardens and the township museum at Auchendrain.
