Auchterless

Otherwise known as Kirktown of Auchterless on the upper River Ythan. 6 miles south of Turriff off the A947 on the B992.

Roman and Pictish remains. Old church dates back to 18th century. Very good agricultural land which was the mainstay of the village.

Castle Towie which dates back to 16th century was built by the Barclay family. For many years it was left in disrepair but during the 1970s it was restored and is now privately owned.
