Rosewell

Scotland > Central Scotland > Midlothian > Rosewell

Rosewell is situated 2½ miles (4 km) south east of Loanhead. Most of this old mining town was owned and built by Archibald Hood - a coal baron of the late 19th century. The terraced houses built for the workers can be seen today in neat rows with each having its own little garden. Through a method of putting extra money earned from the public house back into local projects, Archibald Hood was able to establish schools, churches and shops.
