RockcliffeScotland > South of Scotland > Kirkcudbrightshire > Rockcliffe Rockcliffe lies six miles south of Dalbeattie on the Rough Firth and is most noted for its rock gardens. To the northwest, Mote of Mark, a 5th Century hill-fort, can be found. This was excavated in 1913 and evidence suggests that it was first occupied before the Roman period and then again in AD 450-700. The name Mark is derived from the King of ancient Dumnonia. ![]() |
