RentonScotland > West of Scotland > Dunbartonshire > Renton Two miles North of Dumbarton lies the village of Renton, which was created in 1782 by Mrs Smollett of Bonhill. She named the village after her daughter-in-law and in the past the textile industry featured heavily here. A 60 foot high monument featuring a Latin inscription commemorates the nearby birthplace of novelist Tobias Smollett. ![]() |
