The village of Reiss lies at the junction of the roads for Thurso and John O'Groats, a little inland from Sinclair's Bay. It is two and a half miles northwest of Wick and offers a breath-taking view over the sands of the Bay, where now modernised Ackergill Tower stands. This ancient tower still features a 25 ft. deep well and two dovecotes dating from the 18th century.
