Portsoy

Scotland > East of Scotland > Banffshire > Portsoy

Portsoy is a small town located in north Aberdeenshire between Cullen and Banff. Scenic views over Links Bay are made possible by the harbour, originally built by Patrick Ogilvie in order to allow shipping or 'Portsoy marble.' This marble is a type of serpentine that is light green and pink in colour. It was used for chimney-pieces in the Palace of Versailles. The new harbour was built by the Earl of Seafield in the 1820s as the town's trade and industry grew.
