Pitlessie

Scotland > Central Scotland > Fife > Pitlessie

Four miles southwest of Cupar lie Pitlessie, made famous by Sir David Wilkie's first painting 'Pitlessie Fair,' which now hangs in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh. He was born just northeast of the village in the Cults Manse and the painting was inspired by the cattle fairs which used to take place in the village.
