Pencaitland

Scotland > Central Scotland > East Lothian > Pencaitland

The River Tyne runs through the centre of this charming village, dividing it into Easter Pencaitland and Wester Pencaitland. An early 16th century bridge, known for its three arches, unites the two parts. In Western Pencaitland is situated a Mercat Cross sundial and in Eastern Pencaitland stands the parish church, including a chapel dating from the late 13th century. Nearby, Winton House dates from 1620 and Penkaet (also known as Fountainhall) was completed in the 17th century.
