Ormiston

Scotland > Central Scotland > East Lothian > Ormiston

Ormiston was built in 1735 as Scotland's first planned village. John Cockburn, one of the initiators of the Agricultural Revolution, modelled it on an English village and later sold it to the Earl of Hopetoun.

One of the towns features is Ormiston House, which was built for Cockburn but has an interesting history including housing reforming preacher George Wishart.
