New Pitsligo

Scotland > East of Scotland > Aberdeenshire > New Pitsligo

A large village to the south west of Fraserburgh. Its mainstay and purpose when first built by Sir William Forbes, who laid out and built the village and planted 1,000 of trees, was the extraction of peat from the Buchan Plain. A large and desolate peat bog that supplied peat for whisky making, as far afield as Japan.
