

New CumnockScotland > South of Scotland > Ayrshire > New Cumnock Originally this mining parish was seperated from Cumnock in 1650 and lies on the River Nith, near its source and where it is joined by the Afton Water. Glen Afton is associated with William Wallace and Robert Burns who wrote the immortal lines "flow gently sweet Afton..." The village lies south-east of Cumnock within East Ayrshire, it was constructed in the late 17th Century. and Its industries in the past were coal, textiles and brickmaking. ![]() |
