Muthill

Scotland > East of Scotland > Perthshire > Muthill

An attractive village nestling in a wooded setting some 3 miles from Crieff. The village was burnt to the ground by retreating Highlanders in 1715 after the battle of Sherriffmuir. The Earl of Perth re-built the village and many of the 18th cent houses survive. The old Church of Mutthill has parts as old as the 9th cent. Drummond Castle and irs famous gardens are nearby.
