It grew in the 19th century in association with whisky distilling. The geologist Sir Roderick Impey Murchison was born 1792, on the Tarradale Estate. Founder of air transport company, Loganair, Willie Logan was born in Muir of Ord. Tourism and distilling are the mainstay of the village today.
