Muirkirk

Located in East Ayrshire, 9 miles north east of Cumnock, the isolated settlement of Muirkirk has an industrial past associated with coal extraction and iron works. These have long since disappeared. 5 miles to the south west is Airds Moss where in 1680 a fight took place between the Covenanters and the Royalists, in which Richard Cameron, who gave his name to the famous regiment, was slain.
