Isle of Muck

Muck is a small island off the west coast, Muck means 'island of pigs' and is one of the Small Isles. The island is about two miles long by one mile wide, approx. 1500 acres, it lies three miles north-west of the mainland at Sanna Point and three miles south-west of the island of Eigg and has a population of about 34, although it was much greater in the past - 155 inhabitants in 1831 - 51 in 1891.
Muck is flat and fertile, only rising to 451 feet and is currently run as a stock farm. There are many species of seabird to be seen: including Puffins, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Shearwaters and Sea Eagles.
