Armadale

Scotland > Highland Counties > Isle of Skye > Armadale

On the peninsula of Sleat in the south of the Isle of Skye, Armadale is the ferry port for Mallaig on the mainland. Sleat is known as the "Garden of Skye" - that is probably why there is one of the finest hotels and restaurants in Scotland nearby. Also nearby is the Clan Donald Visitor Centre as this is Macdonald of Skye territory as Armadale Castle indicates!

Johnston and Boswell visited Armadale during their Highland journeys in 1773. They were accommodated in the predecessor to the existing Armadale House.

yesscotland.com says:
From Kilbeag, 2 miles north of Armadale, take a detour up an unclassfied road to Tarskavaig and Tokavaig. From here you have brilliant views of the Cuillins over Loch Eishort. Just up the A851 towards Broadford is Eilean Iarmain, the famous Gaelic College. People come from all over the world to enrol here.
