Arisaig
Scotland > Highland Counties > Inverness-shire > Arisaig
On the "Road to the Isles" between Fort William and Mallaig, just south of the Sands of Morar and the Traigh Golf Course. Arisaig is a beautiful and sheltered mooring for yachts and has a passenger ferry service to the Small Isles of Muck, Rum, Eigg and Canna.
Nearby Arisaig House is now a private house but until fairly recently was a fine hotel, the grounds of which reputedly had flowering Rhododendrons for every month of the year. During the Second World War the house was a training centre for SOE personnel.
Many parts of this area of Lochaber are associated with Bonnie Prince Charlie and near to here, on the coast, there is a cave where he hid for a short while after the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
The village has an hotel, restaurant and shop in addition to a boat repair and chandlery service.
yesscotland.com says: Fabulous area. A trip to Mallaig is a very popular event and on the way a lunch stop in Arisaig on a fine day is more than welcoming. Recommended.
