Millport
Scotland > West of Scotland > Isle of Cumbrae > Millport
The isle of Cumbrae has only one town, Millport. It is a holiday resort dating from the Victorian heyday of popular trips "doon the watter" from Glasgow for the working classes.
The old peir has seen most of the great Clyde Paddle Steamers call in over the years, now sadly, no more. The Waverly, the last sea going paddle steamer still calls in to Milport on the odd occasion during her summer season cruising.
It has, unlike some other destinations of Victorian times, retained its popularity as a holiday resort. This is in part due to the fact it is on an island, its safe sandy bays, welcoming bars and cafes and safe roads ideal for walking and Millports speciality, cycling.
It has a Marine Biology Station and aquarium, golf course, outdoor activity centre and regular "roll on, roll off" ferry link
yesscotland.com says: A great place for a family day visit, don't miss the Ritz Cafes "hot pea specials" - this is the west of Scotland at its traditional best!
