YesScotland.com : A view of Loch Leven The largest of the Scottish Lowlands lochs, Loch Leven, is a well know nature reserve. The Loch is of great international importance for birds, attracting around 15,000 geese every year.
Loch Leven Castle sits enchantingly on an islet in the loch. The island was the scene of intrigue and romance when the Castle acted as a prison to Mary Queen of Scots in 1567. Her dramatic escape with the help of young Will Douglas, who locked her captuors in the great hall and then dropped the keys into the loch, those same keys were found 300 years later!
