Kilwinning
Scotland > South of Scotland > Ayrshire > Kilwinning
Kilwinning lies near the mouth of the River Garnock, north of Irvine in North Ayrshire. Kilwinning was noted for archery in past times and later developed an association with coal mining, quarrying, iron-founding and textile manufacture. Industries now include whisky blending and bottling and electronics. In the 1960's Kilwinning was included within the plan for Irvine New Town.
Eglinton Country Park, with the ruin of Eglinton Castle, dating from 1798, Dalgarven Mill, Irvine and the coast are all nearby.
