Kilbirnie

On the River Garnock 10 miles north of Irvine in North Ayrshire. Kilbirnie contains a parish church dating from 1654, constructed for the Crawford and Cunningham families with an ornate carved pulpit and the Garnock Gallery of the Crawford family. Historically the local industries were the making of fishing nets, textiles and ropes.
Kilbirnie Palace stood to the west and was the seat of the Earls of Crawford, it was burnt down in the 18th century.
