Scotland > East of Scotland > Aberdeenshire > Kemnay

Kemnay, a village on the Don, 16 miles west of Aberdeen, 4 miles south-west of Inverurie, the nearest town. From Aberdeen on the A96.
The name Kemnay is derived either from the Celtic words meaning bend on the river or from the Gaelic ceann a maigh, meaning 'head of the plain'.
Granite from nearby Paradise Hill was used in many prestigious buildings throughout the UK including, The Royal Liver Building in Liverpool, Thames Embankment and Tower Bridge in London and The Marischal College in Aberdeen (the second largest granite building in Europe!).
